Leather Restoration White Sofa

Mobile Leather Repairs were called in to undertake a Leather Restoration on a customers 3 str reclining sofa, over the years the leather had started to build up with dirt and grimes which was filling the pours of the leather causing the pigment to start to lift in certain areas, this work was undertaken in the comfort of the customers home, there was no need for the furniture to be uplifted for repairs.

Here is the before picture we started with a rather grey looking cream sofa which has a build up of every day wear and tear which has slightly changed the

tone of the leather, there is also an area of colour loss where the customer head rests which we needed to attend to. This 3str is part of a set the customer has another two chairs which have never been used and as this 3str was part of the same set it looked very odd sitting in there living room.

We start a Leather Restoration process by undertaking a full deep clean, this is by using our deep leather cleaner which reaches deep in to the grain removing al the dirt and debris from the grain of the leather which allows the leather to be able to breath again, we also use a tampico brush  to help with break down the surfaces.  Once fully cleaned we then re clean the high wear areas using a solvent cleaner this allows us to remove any stains and dye transfer which are on the leather, dye transfer comes from clothing and throws and pillows which bleed there colour.

Here you can see where we have cleaned just the seat, back and arm of the rhf seat so you can see what our cleaning service can achieve, this is a massive difference as long as there is no damage to the leather the cleaning service would be all you need, the Leather Restoration is only beneficial if you have various areas of leather damage which requires remedial work.

When the leather is fully clean we can then start work on restoring the damaged areas, in this case there was a few areas of scuffing across the seating covers and an area of body perspiration where the customers head sits.  We treat both of these repairs in different ways, the body perspiration needs to be treated by de greasing the area prior to any dye being applied, the scratches need to be rubbed back and layers of leather filler being applied to build up the damage area to bring back the strength to the leather.  Once the repairs are undertaken we undertaking mixing the leather dye carefully by eye you would be surprised how many different shades there are, patients makes perfection.

We start by applying a nice hand coat reading in the grain of the leather enabling a nice bond to the leather with a few coats via an airbrush to give a nice even coat just like they do in the factory.

That just leaves the top coat a nice solvent based finish to protect that good work and to give you the added protection for years of wear to come, we will advise you of future maintenance to help you look after your leather and keep it in pristine condition.
