This Skoda car owner was in need of a leather car seat repair. This tear in the leather car seat was repaired by one of our technicians. The repair process is started by setting up the equipment necessary to complete it. Once this has all been done the technician can move on to the repair.
Skoda Repairs
First the technician uses a lint free cloth and leather cleaner to clean the damaged area to ensure there is no dirt embedded in the repair. After the area has been cleaned the technician preps it using leather prep and another lint free cloth to remove the manufacturers coating and any pesticides on the leather.
Next the technician uses a small cut off piece of dust cover. They place this inside the tear. They do this using a pin to hold it in the centre while they smoothen it out. This is so that there is something inside the leather to stick the torn leather back to. Once this has been done the technician applies leather glue to the tear. They then stick the torn leather to the cloth. After the glue haas dried the technician then applies filler to the leather. This is to fill in the gaps in the leather from where it was torn. It also fills the dip in the leather from where it would have sank.
Once the leather filler has been applied the technician uses sand paper to file the area so that it is smooth. Now that the area is smooth a layer of colour is applied. This process is repeated over and over until the surface is smooth and even. Once this is ensured the final layer of colour should be applied. Finally the technician applies a coat of lacquer.
After Completion
Once completed the seat needs to be left for at least 1 hour until it is dry enough to touch. This is if the customer wishes to have a closer look at the repair however we do not recommend it. The Skoda car seat should then not be used for approximately 48 hours. This depending on how much colour and filler is applied during the repair and on how much damage there was.
We advise that all leather is cleaned and protected every six months. This allows the leather to stay clean and fresh. The protection cream gives that extra barrier between the wear and tear and the sofa.
