Cat Scratches Leather Restoration

This sofa had been scratched severely and the cat scratches over the sides of the sofa. Our technician arrived at the customers house to repair the sofa.

Our technician began the process by sanding down the areas where the cat scratches are. Once sanded down with the 320mm sandpaper all of the raised areas have been removed. Now the technician uses the 400mm sandpaper to smooth the area completely. In some cases the area needs sanding down again with the 320mm sandpaper.

After this has been done the technician applies texture paste which is a form of filler to the cat scratches. If too much filler is applied the technician may need to sand down the area again.

Once completely smooth the technician applies a base cost of the burgundy leather dye. After a base coat is applied with a lint free cloth the technician moves on to using the air brush. Using the airbrush the technician applies evenly spread coats of dye. Once enough coats have been applied the technician applies one final coat of lacquer to the repaired cat scratches on the sofa.

Second Visit

After having the sides of their sofas repaired the customers decided to call our technicians back to repair cat scratches on the arms and the fronts of the sofas and behind the cushions. So our technician returned to the customers house.

The technician repeats the same process as before repairing all the cat scratches in the new areas. The technician sands down the areas and fills any areas with severe damage and then applies colour to them.

Once the technician has applied all the layers of colour needed they then apply the final coat of lacquer to seal the repairs.

Dry Time

Once completed the area needs to be left for at least 1 hour until it is dry enough to touch. This is if the customer wishes to have a closer look at the repair however we do not recommend it. The area should then not be used for approximately 48 hours. This depending on how much colour and filler is applied during the repair and on how much damage there was.

Cleaning And Protection

We advise that all leather is cleaned and protected every six months. This allows the leather to stay clean and fresh. The protection cream gives that extra barrier between the wear and tear and the sofa.

Cleaning kits are always recommended after every repair. This to help enable you to maintain your leather from future damage. Please feel free to ask any questions they are happy to give you help and guidance that you may require.

Yearly maintenance

We offer a yearly maintenance plan for all customers that have had our full restoration service. This is where you get a reduced fixed price for us to visit every year. This to undertake a full clean and minor repairs for the price of our standard clean package. If you would like to take advantage of this package please speak to technician while on site. They can get you added to the plan and get your next appointment booked in.
