The arm of this Suffolk sofa is suffering from colour loss.
This sofa is one that has an under colour. As the top coat wears off the colour underneath comes through.
As you can see, significant amounts of the under colour is showing. This is making the area weak and can lead to further damage as well as being an eyesore when you walk into the room.
In order to restore the Suffolk arm rest the technician will begin by cleaning the arm.
This is done using leather cleaner and a lint free cloth. Next the technician will prep the Suffolk arm using leather prep and a lint free cloth.
Once the arm is cleaned and prepped it is ready to be repaired.
Next the technician will sand it down using 400grit sandpaper. Once sanded if the area needs it the technician will use a leather filler to go over the damaged area in order to bring the peeled areas level with the surrounding areas. These will then be dried with a hairdryer.
PLEASE NOTE EACH JOB IS DIFFERENT AND THESE STEPS ARE DOWN TO THE TECHNICIANS DISCRETION. FURTHER STEPS MAY BE NECESSARY, OTHERS MAY NOT BE NECESSARY AT ALL.
Once the filler is dried the technician will sand it down once again using 400grit sandpaper.
Now that it is smooth and level the technician will apply a base coat of leather dye with a lint free cloth.
Next the technician will spray the area with leather dye using an air compressor.
Once the area is dyed and dried the technician will apply the final layer.
After Completion
Lastly the technician applies the lacquer. This is used to seal the repaired arm. All of our products are water based except for the lacquer. Therefore the Suffolk arm needs to be left in order for all of the products to have enough time to cure.
Now that the Suffolk leather arm repair is completed the arm needs to be left for a couple of hours in order to dry. Then it is touch dry should the customer wish to touch it. Although this is not recommended. The arm should be left for 48 hours as a minimum until it is used but this depends on how much colour is applied.
