This sofa set undertook a dark to light colour change. Initially the sofas were dark grey. The customer didn’t think they matched her lounge. We helped her to change the colour of them from dark to light grey.

The process began. Firstly by cleaning the sofas and the footstool. This is done using leather cleaner and a lint free cloth. Next the sofas and the footstool are prepped with leather prep and a lint free cloth. Once they have been prepped they are fully sanded down. This is done using 320 grit sandpaper. Now they have been sanded down the sofas are prepped again. Similarly this is done with a lint free cloth. Again the sofas and footstool are sanded down, this again is done with 320 grit sandpaper. Another repetition of the prepping is completed on the sofas and the footstool. And again with the sanding down. However this time it is done with 400 grit sandpaper.

Next the technician uses the small air compressor to apply leather dye to the seam areas and the edges. After this the technician uses a larger air compressor to apply leather dye to all of the panels. This is done panel by panel to ensure best coverage. This is done several times to apply layers to the sofas. During this process hairdryers are used to dry the panels. Meanwhile the technician is colouring the panels on the next sofa.

Lastly the technician applies five coats of lacquer. This is to seal and protect the leather sofas. As a result, there’s a dark to light grey colour change. Finally our customer was very happy their sofas.

On going maintenance

We advise that all leather is cleaned and protected every six months this allows the leather to stay clean and fresh and the protection cream gives that extra barrier between the wear and tear and the sofa.
